Outlander Inspired Events

January 16, 2019 Clare McVay

By now almost everyone has heard of the TV series Outlander, and its handsome leading man, ‘Jamie Fraser’. It has inspired a wave of new tourists to visit Scotland in search of the quaint villages, mysterious castles and glorious landscapes showcased in the series.

And it’s inspiring Outlander Events too: from cocktail making with traditional herbs, to a clan-themed banquet in a candlelit castle! Follow in the footsteps of the show’s main characters, discovering key filming locations to create your group’s perfect Outlander itinerary!

Step 1: Clan Names and Tartans for all your group! Help foster team work and friendly competition by dividing groups into traditional clans. Commission a tartan for your event, and have it made into Kilts, or gift  scarves in different tartans to different clans. We can organise clan-themed treasure hunts on the Royal Mile which include traditional tastings, kilt workshops and of course, Outlander filming sites!

Step 2: Start the day with some fresh air. Visit some of the quaint cobbled villages which star in the show. Falkland, below, doubles as Inverness, but is in fact much closer to Edinburgh!

Step 3: Experience a traditional herb garden, the same used by Claire (the heroine of the show), and use some of what you find there to create ‘healing’ botanical cocktails.

Step 4: Visit the ruined castle which doubles as Jamie’s family home ‘Lallybroch’, only 30 minutes from Edinburgh.

Step 5: Host a clan dinner with music and candles and tartan! Choose from a long list of castles and grand venues featured in the show. Many are just outside Edinburgh.
