Beach Clean for Team Green

March 14, 2020 Clare McVay

Here at K&N Travel we’re making a determined effort to boost our green credentials, from toilet twinning to cycling to work to cutting down on plastic at events. Right now, the attention of our industry and the world is focused on beating this destructive virus, but confinement has given us an opportunity to slow down and work on our green credentials at home too!

That’s why at the start of March, before social distancing became a thing, we organised a beach clean in Musselburgh. We’d been working on various green initiatives in the office and at events, but we wanted to go one further. It was the first time any of us had participated in such a project, but the local council made it very easy for us to get equipment (and tide times)!

We met early one Saturday at Musselburgh harbour and Kate handed out the pickers and bags. Our family, friends, industry connections and even some furry companions joined us! We split into two teams and started from opposite ends of the beach, eventually meeting in the middle. It was amazing how much rubbish we collected from what at first glance looked like a relatively clean beach. From shoes to plastic cutlery, to tyres to wholly unidentifiable objects, we picked it all!

The weather was kind, but we were grateful for a cup of tea and chocolate biscuit at the end! Our noses were cold and our arms aching from carrying the heavy bags along the sand. But we all agreed it was a Saturday morning well spent and scheduled another beach clean for Autumn!

We hope once the current threat of COVID19 abates that you’ll join us for our next litter pick.
Together we’ll get through this, and we’ll appreciate days out like this even more. Keep chasing rainbows, look out for one another, and know that there is hope!
